Summer '19 Honey Harvest is IN!

ABOUT US

At Breezy Hill Honey Company, we have a fascination for bees and nature.  Bees are one of the most efficient pollinators on the planet, and much of the US food production is dependent on honey bees.  Although there are many pollinating insects like bumble bees and butterflies, they do not have the numbers to effectively pollinate many crops.  The California almond crop is entirely dependent on honey bees. Seedless watermelons and chili peppers are also highly dependent on honey bees for pollination.

Our honey is 100% pure honey--no corn syrup, no additives.  It is a reflection of the flowers and landscape of our area.  The quality of the honey is also a reflection of the health of the land.  For example, drought years with fewer flowers results in less honey which may be of lesser quality.  At Breezy Hill, we grow sweet clover, blackberries, blueberries, strawberries, and a variety of other flowering plants as food (forage) for our bees.  Flowers produce nectar, which the bees collect, dehydrate, and eventually turn into honey.  A variety of flowering plants provides a more consistent nectar flow.  This, in turn, allows our bees to produce honey for months.  However, most honey production still occurs during the spring and early summer months.  We are constantly looking for better ways to tend the land and naturally enrich our soil to keep our land and bees healthy.  We believe in the judicious use of insecticides.  We always try to avoid using insecticides on flowering plants.

Breezy Hill Honey Company is owned and operated by Dr. Craig Chang.  He has been keeping bees since 2004.   With the help of friends and local bee keeping experts, he has learned the art of raising queens, keeping hives healthy and dividing hives.  When not tending bees, he spends his time practicing bariatric surgery (weight loss surgery), building furniture, and exercising.
